ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

This laser provides results similar to the older Co2 laser technologies (i.e. skin resurfacing technology) with much less downtime and fewer risks. It is an FDA approved skin resurfacing laser system that offers treatment for:
• Resurfacing of aging and sun damaged skin
• Wrinkles and lines on face and neck
• Brown spots and pigmentation on face and neck
• Redness on face and neck

WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT FROM FRAXEL RE:PAIR?

This minimally invasive ablative laser provides energy to the deep skin tissue stimulating production of new collagen.  It delivers smoother, fresher looking skin, tightens tissue and improves tone and texture.  A “fractional therapy,” the Fraxel re:pair laser isolates imperfections while leaving healthy skin untouched. Therefore, there is minimal downtime.  It is especially effective in improving the lines around the eyes (crow’s feet) and the vertical lines around the lips (smoker’s lines).  One to two treatments may be required for best results.

HOW IS FRAXEL RE:STORE DIFFERENT FROM FRAXEL RE:PAIR?

Fraxel re:pair is a more aggressive treatment that achieves more striking results and also has a longer downtime (Fraxel re:pair downtime is approximately 7 days, while Fraxel re:store downtime is approximately 2-3 days.).  In most cases, results are seen with only one treatment compared to about four treatments with Fraxel re:store.  Fraxel re:store is especially effective on acne scars.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT BEFORE AND AFTER TREATMENT?

During the initial consultation, your physician will discuss your specific concerns and evaluate if this treatment is appropriate for you.  If you move forward, a treatment usually takes about 30-40 minutes. It is generally performed by a physician in one of our cosmetic centers.  A topical anesthetic will be administered about one hour prior to treatment along with oral pain medications. You will receive prescriptions for medications to prevent infection after the resurfacing.  You should avoid tanning for at least one month before treatment.

In most cases, you can see visible results in skin color and texture with only one treatment of Fraxel re:pair.  The downtime is approximately 7 days, during which  you will experience scabbing and peeling of the skin, as well as pinkness and swelling. You may apply makeup or shave after the flaking period has ended.  Typically patients can go back to work within a week.
