Nose Job (Rhinoplasty)
Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures offered at our Northern California locations from Napa and San Francisco to Union City. As the nose is a feature of your overall appearance, being dissatisfied with your nose can cause considerable self-consciousness. Nose surgery can reshape your nose and bring balance to your face. The results may be very subtle or more dramatic, depending on your specific goals.
About Nose Surgery
Cosmetic rhinoplasty reshapes the nose by removing or reshaping bone and cartilage, narrowing the nostrils, or changing the angle from the nose tip to the upper lip. Nose surgery can also improve the function of the nose and help you breathe easier.
What Is Treatment Like?
Nose surgery usually takes from 2 to 4 hours, and can be performed under local or general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Your surgeon may perform an open rhinoplasty, which utilizes an incision on the columella (the strip of skin between your nostrils), or a closed rhinoplasty, which places all incisions inside the nose.
Am I a Candidate?
If you are a physically and mentally healthy adult with realistic expectations, you may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty. Young adults may also undergo the procedure, but nose surgery is not recommended for girls under 13 or for boys under 15.

What Can I Expect Before and After Surgery?
Your provider will give you detailed instructions on how to prepare for your surgery, including which medications and supplements to discontinue.
When it comes to nose surgery recovery and results, patience is a virtue. You may not see your final results for as long as a year. Bruising and swelling around the eyes usually peak after the first 3 days and can last up to 2 weeks. Avoid strenuous activity for at least 6 weeks. If you wear glasses that rest on the bridge of your nose, you may need to have them altered, or wear contact lenses during your recovery period.
