About Me
I am excited to be joining Kaiser Permanente’s Oakland Medical Center as their new plastic and reconstructive surgeon. My parents, brothers, and I left Vietnam as boat people and Oakland is where we first stepped foot on American soil, as new refugees, over thirty years ago. This is a welcome homecoming after having spent most of my life in Boston, Chicago, and New York. I look forward to the opportunity to provide reconstructive surgery to the diverse and multicultural patient population of the East Bay.
As a reconstructive plastic surgeon, I work with patients of all ages, to do what plastic surgery is meant to do: repair, restore, and improve any injuries or abnormalities of the body. Plastic surgeons often work with other surgeons to help patients who need surgery for cancer, whether it be of the breast, the tissues of the leg or arm, or abdomen to do reconstruction following their cancer surgery.
I did specialized training in microvascular free flap reconstruction which allows us to take tissue from one part of the body and move it to a different part of the body by connecting the small blood vessels in that tissue. It is really gratifying to work with patients and take their bodies from something abnormal back to normal and allow patients to feel whole and complete again.
“My surgical interests include, but are not limited to:
• General reconstructive surgery
• Microsurgery
• Gender-affirming/Transgender surgery
Kaiser Permanente is a great place to work, the hospital and all the doctors are committed to making Oakland Medical Center a place dedicated to compassionate patient care, excellence in healthcare, innovations in surgical practice, and coordinated multidisciplinary collaboration. Kaiser Permanente emphasizes on their patients and doctors having a healthy, well-balanced life and as a surgeon, I appreciate that we are all encouraged to live healthy with routine preventative care.
I am new to the Bay Area, in my free time I love exploring all the sights and sounds of the community and surrounding areas. I love the outdoors, from the mountains to the ocean, and I am so glad to be leaving the cold winters behind which means I can enjoy being outside year-round! When I am not outside being active, I love to eat and try different types of food, so I look forward to exploring all the different neighborhoods for delicious food.
